As specialists in the field of orthodontics, Drs. Carol Knaup and Bill McNeill have completed extensive clinical training and research in the art and science of orthodontics beyond their eight years of pre-dental and basic dental education. Their specialty education, many years of clinical experience, and their academic involvement as faculty members in the University of Washington graduate orthodontic residency program assure that the patients under their care receive the highest quality orthodontic health care available.
Dr. Knaup is a native of the Pacific Northwest (Alaska and Washington) and has practiced orthodontics on Mercer Island since 1994. She attended the University of Washington for both her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science degrees.
She stays current with the latest dental and orthodontic technology and scientific advancements through her association with the University of Washington Orthodontic Alumni Association Board of Directors, service as a faculty member at the UW School of Dentistry, and participation in two orthodontic study clubs and one interdisciplinary dental study club. Dr. Knaup is a member of the King County Dental Society, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontists. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Knaup enjoys skiing, running, playing the piano and gardening. She also finds time to travel extensively with her husband, Dr. Steve Knaup, and their two grown children.
Dr. McNeill earned Doctor of Dental Surgery and Masters in Physical Anthropology degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Following a National Institutes of Health Fellowship at Philadelphia Children’s Hospital, Dr. McNeill completed his specialty training in the University of Washington orthodontic residency program. He subsequently combined private practice with service on the faculty of the University of Washington Department of Orthodontics, from which he retired as full professor in 1990.
Dr. McNeill has published more than 50 scientific articles and textbook chapters and has been invited to lecture and conduct continuing education courses in the United States and in foreign countries on well over 100 occasions. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has served as President of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and as Chair of the American Association of Orthodontists Council on Scientific Affairs.
An avid sailor, Dr. McNeill fulfilled his dream of offshore cruising when he took a mid-career sabbatical to spend seven years sailing along the west coasts of the United States and Mexico, through French Polynesia and the other island nations of the South Pacific, to New Zealand. In addition to skiing, road-biking, and artisanal woodturning, Dr. McNeill is active in community affairs with a particular interest in environmental conservation.
